- Entitled "On the agriculture of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and
Wigtownshire", this article is drawn from the above records. Although
it is not directly related to the Parish of Buittle, it is a very valuable
description of the state of agriculture in Galloway in the second half of
the 19th Century, as well as accounting many historical explanations and
observations. As the Parish is generally of an agricultural nature, it must
describe the farming and rural history of our area.

- A lighthearted look at life in the parish, from a story-teller's
viewpoint. Written in Scots Doric, it may be a little difficult to
understand unless you are a local !!
- Captain Wilson
- The Commodore of the River Urr. By Alex. Wilson. Extracted from "The
Gallovidian", Vol.4, Spring 1902.
- The "Levellers"
- An account of the uprising of the tenants and cottagers in Galloway in
1723, in protest at the enclosure of estate lands, resulting in ejection and
homelessness. Enclosure, and the establishment of farming units on
Orchardton, led to the end of crofting on the estate, and the establishment,
by the estate, of Palnackie village to house those displaced. Extracted from "The
Gallovidian".
- The Water of Orr: Its Sailors and Shipping
- An article, written in 1931, detailing the ships and their captains
working from the River Urr over the years. Contains information on local
people involved in the industry.
- The Solway Lass - in Fiji
- David R Collin of Kirkcudbright came across the 'Solway Lass' whilst
working in Fiji in 1974. This is the story of his encounter.
- The Introduction of the Railway into
Galloway
- This article was written in 1909 marking the 50th anniversary of the
opening of the Dumfries - Dalbeattie - Castle Douglas Railway.
- Fire at Munches House
- On.18th May 1868 a fire occurred at the, then recently refurbished, mansion house
at Munches, the home of Mr Wellwood Maxwell, M.P. This newspaper article
about the incident gives a graphical account.
- Rescue of the barque Glendalough by Balcary

- Although based near Auchencairn, the crew of Balcary Lifeboat largely came
