The following gravestone at Buittle churchyard records the death of some family members. The family appears to have spread far and wide across the world.

229. In memory of John Robson, who died at Palnackie, on the 8th of August 1850, aged 65 years. Also Mary Black, his spouse, who died the 28th July 1850, aged 65 years. 'It has pleased the Lord to separate them from us and called them by his grace." Also his son John Robson, who died at Liverpool, on the 9th October 1842, aged 34 years. Also his son James Robson, who died at Buenos Ayres, South America, the 22nd of April 1845, aged 39 years. Also Capt. Robert Robson, their son who died at Hong Kong, 11th October 1864, aged 39 years.

The 1841 census shows only 4 members of the family still in the parish, viz:

Robson: John. Palnackie (6, 1), Aged 50. Publican.
Robson: Mary. Palnackie (6, 1), Aged 50.
Robson: Robert. Palnackie (6, 1), Aged 15. Merchant Seaman.
Robson: Grace. Palnackie (6, 7), Aged 15.

Samuel by this time would have been 20 years old, and had probably left the village to become a merchant seaman like his younger brother. Many natives of Palnackie sailed the world, and settled elsewhere.
